Since 2012 World Championship, Croatian female kumite team is strongly dominating the karate scene in kumite team competition. After winning the World silver in Paris, Croatian female kumite team didn’t participate at any European Championship without taking their place on the podium. The golden team consisted of Azra Saleš, Ivona Tubić, Ana Lenard and the captian Ana-Marija Bujas Čelan won European gold in 2013 and 2015, while in 2014 they took bronze. Adding the European silver in 2012, and World silver (2012) and bronze (2010) in previous composition with Maša Martinović, who was replaced by Lenard. Are they going to become the European Champions for the 3rd time we’ll find out tomorrow.
To reach the European finals for the 2nd time in a row, Croatian team defeated the teams of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sweden, Switzerland and the hosting nation France. In the final they will meet with the team of Azerbaijan consisted of Nurana Aliyeva, Farida Abiyeva, Iryna Zaretska and Ilaha Gasimova. The Azerbijan girls suprised and managed to defeat the teams of Portugal, Russia, Finland and Turkey.
Beside the team finals, Croatia’s Tubic (-68 kg) and Lenard (-61 kg) are also fighting tomorrow for the bronze medal in individual categories, as well as Azerbaijan’s Zaretska (-68 kg).
For the team bronze will be fighting the teams of Russia against Turkey, and the team of Switzerland against the hosting France.
