The World Champion, Italian ace Sara Cardin is back in the game. After winning the gold in Bremen at the last World Championship, Cardin started to lose her good form adding the injuries due to what she didn’t had any remarkable preformance until now. After some time, she finally stood on the podium of Female Kumite -55 kg category last month at Dubai Premier League, by which she announce her big comeback to karate stage. This will be her 4th European final, but will it be the 3rd European title we’ll see tomorrow.
Standing on her way will be Ukraine’s Anzhelika Terlyuga who awaited her chance to shine in individuals at the European Championship as this is her first time performing in individual category. She has been a member of Ukrainian female kumite team for few years, but yet didn’t have the opportunity to fight as an individual. In some way she showed up as a bombshell of the Euro Karate 2016, while on the other hand many of people where expecting her to shine as she recently won several medals at prestigious Karate1 Premier League events. For sure the most notable was winning the 2nd place at this year’s Paris Open in January, where many agreed she should had won the gold.
To reach the finals, Cardin defeated Ireland’s Mairi Kerin, Luxembourg’s Jennifer Warling and Turkey’s Busra Tosun, while Anzhelika was successful over Montenegro’s Ana Draskovic, European Champion Emilie Thouy of France and Spain’s Cristina Ferrer Garcia, from who she lost in Paris Open final.
Ferrer Garcia is going to fight for her 2nd European bronze against Draskovic, while Tosun will be fighing against Warling, who already has 2 European medals in senior category.
