After losing the final against Zuzana Augustinova of Czech Republic at the 42nd EKF Junior, Cadet & U21 Championship (Zurich, Switzerland) in early February in Junior Kata category, 17-year-old Dilara Bozan, who will turn 18 tomorrow, won the silver medal at the 50th European Senior Karate Championship which was held last week in Istanbul, Turkey. Since it is allowed for 16-year-olds and older to participate in senior kata categories, this is already her second senior championship, as well as the second senior medal for young Dilara. Dilara had already won the senior bronze at the previous championship in Tampere, Finland.
As she was also participating at the championship as a part of the Turkish female kata team who won gold and became European Champions, next to Croatian Ana Lenard (silver in -61 kg, gold in female team kumite), Dilara Bozan is the most successful female athlete at the Championship.
After being free in the first round, to make it to the finals, in second round Dilara won against Melinda Mark of Switzerland (4:1), after what she won against Croatian Vlatka Kiuk (3:2) in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals Dilara won against Veronika Miskova from Czech Republic (4:1).
In the final, Dilara lost by 4:1 against Sandra Sánchez from Spain who had more than successfully inherited Martin Abello Yaiza. Sandra came into the finals by winning against Sandy Scordo of France (4:1), Slovakian Katarina Longova (5:0), Macedonian Puleksenija Jovanovska (5:0) and Jasmin Bluel of Germany (5:0) who have previously won against last year’s European champion Italian Viviana Bottaro in the second round (3:2).
The bronze medals won Veronika Miskova who won over Vlatka Kiuk by 5:0, and Jasmin Bluel who was better than Sandy Scordo by 3:2.
